my neighbour needs help please...partner killed by drunk driver

Options
Hi...as per title...in dec14 my neighbour was hit hhead on by a drunk driver. He is awaiting his case in crown court, but pending a judgement the coroner has only issued an interim death certificate.
The prudential are not accepting this and wont pay out.
What does it matter? The court case wont bring ken back - who i have to say was a lovely bloke.
My neighbour is desperate. Her health is failing, and she needs the money.
Theres no insurance pay out til the court case is done.
The family liaison officer says there is more than enough forensics to prove he was driving...even though we believe the guy has never given the same story twice.
Is there anything i can tell her to expedite matters?
Any suggestions welcome.
Thank you.

Give TPAS a ring and ask their advice.

Has your neighbour claimed any state benefits to which she is entitled?

I notice that the DWP accept an interim death certificate or letter from the coroner.

Please send us the Certificate of Registration of Death if you have not already sent it to us.
You can get this from the registrar, for free, in Great Britain only. If you have an interim death
certificate or a letter from the coroner confirming the death, please send it to us."

Presumably the Pru accepts that your neighbour has died and that this lady is his widow?

What reason is given for withholding the widow's pension? She might point out that the official government department for paying bereavement benefits accepts the IDC?
  • Will pass on all details to her tomorrow. She did get some help with funeral cost. Ive asked her before why government depts will accept but the pru wont but she doesnt seem to get any answers. Her solicitor doesn't seem to be able to help much either.

Has he contacted the Pru on her behalf?

This is difficult. I have been unable to get a pension scheme (teachers pension) to pay out on an interim certificate. It might be possible to ask the coroner to write to the pension administrators to explain the circumstances.
