Mortgage Endowment Plan long forgotten

I have received a letter from ReAssure re a Barclays Life Policy after they had traced me to my current address
Policy from 1996 and shows Policy Type "Mortgage Endowment Plan" and is a fund "BL Life Managed Fund"
Premium is £0 and current value is not huge - approx £1k (sum assured £3,600)
problem: Policy holders and Lives assured are myself and ex husband
I have no contact him since prior to divorce 8 years ago (very acrimonious) and this policy was not covered in the Financial Consent order as we were unaware it was still in existence (thought all endowments were cashed in years before when moved to repayment mortgage)

Given that this is a joint policy is there any way of cashing in 50% or do I just have to wait and get a little windfall when he pops his clogs? (or he gets one if I go first!)

You will need to meet the insurer's requirements to prove title before anything will be paid.

As you are both entitled to the proceeds nothing will be paid until you both sign for the them.

A death claim will only be paid if the survivor provides a copy of the death certificate. Is that likely?

I would not have thought so...and I am not likely to put myself in the position of being in the same room as him to sign something given that the last time I saw him he attacked me and split my head open knocking me unconscious...life is good now, don't need to live in the past...would rather forget about the £s than have any involvement
