I've had good success freezing mushrooms, peppers and onions - makes life so handy!!!
Got a bit over excited in the reduced section this morning, and bought 5 packs of reduced spring onions, planning to freeze for use in cooking.
Just checking to see that other folk have had success with this.

Like any onion, they'll go a bit mushy when you defrost them. However, if you're just going to use them in cooking then they'll be fine, it's just they won't be much good for eating on a salad, for example.0

Yeap - thinking mainly of adding to mash = Champ
Not really sure what else to use them in.:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0 -
I chop them up and freeze.
I use them instead of white onion in things like tomato sauces for pasta, meatballs etc.
Also use them in HM meatloaf or HM Turkey burgers0 -
I use them too, with cubed butternut squash or sweet potato in risotto.0

A bit of a dumb question but I only freeze meals I have cooked. When you freeze the likes of mushrooms, peppers and onions how do you chop them, do you part cook them then freeze.GC 2015: Aug £272.21 /£300 Sept £112.41 /£300

I just slice or dice and freeze, no need to cook them first0 -
Chop as you would for cooking.
Spread out on a single sheet (baking tray / greaseproof paper), and freeze. This helps prevent clumps of your veg sticking together.
When frozen as above, tip into a large tupperwear tub, and place back in freezer.
Handiest thing ever when cooking!!!:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0 -

they will be fine for cooking - just not for salads. I often use spring onions where I don't want or need a whole onion.0

When I see onions maybe reduced in price I always buy and peel and dice them I chuck into a plastic bag then again into another one and again wrap for the third time into a bag and seal the neck so the smell doesn't permeate the rest of the frozen stuff.once frozen I give the triple wrapped bags a good wallop with the steak mallet to loosen them so when I open to get some out they are 'pour-able'from the bag to the casserole or whatever.
Buy keeping a stock of diced onions in the freezer at all times I never run out. As said before great for using in cooking, but not so good if wanting to use them in a salad.
I try to use every nook and cranny in my freezer 's space if I can. I bought a reduced pack of chives a few months ago for 4p and topped and tailed them then cut into smaller lengths and put in a very small lock'n'lock box in the freezer great for chucking into plain value soft low fat cheese to flavour or into soups and stews. Nothing at all gets wasted if possible in my house and very few things really can't be frozen (its really suspended animation ):):)
