yoghurt maker

Options
Trying to save cash (obviously) and I'm the mother of a 3 yr old yoghurt addict - what's the best way to make it? I bet someone has already asked this.....

What about those easi-yo things?

Old style electric thing (my nan had one)?

Any suggestions?:D

  • Hi I use the Lakeland yogurt maker which is great if you use alot as you can make a litre @ a time and buy extra pots so you can have 1 in the fridge & one in the maker. Just start it off with milk & bio yogurt (i use yeo valley) you can then use your own yogurt as a starter but will need to use fresh bio every few litres as it starts to get weak.

Its great for making smoothies which my boys drink tons of & would cost a fortune if I bought them. If you want to use the yogurt for eating I would strain it a little first to remove the excess liquid. You used to be able to buy a strainer to fit the pot in lakeland but I just use a cloth & colander. If you leave it over night it gets like a soft cheese which is great with added herbs, black pepper & salt.

You can also make it in a thermos flask but it is a little trickier but I have had success with this method before I had the maker. Warm milk into the flask add a couple of spoons of bio yogurt leave over night. Voila

Dont know about the easiyo as i haven't used it but all those packets all look a bit processed for me.

    Hope this helps

Have just bought an Easiyo, my first attempt with one of the powdered ones was lovely! Am now trying using milk and some of the greek yoghurt for the starter, will updat you if it worked tomorrow!
the powder was about £1.70 for a litres Yoghurt, however the longlife milk I got for tonights attampt was £0.50 so not to bad if it works
Only two big facts are known for certain: you are on a large, spinning rock hurtling through lonely space at about 67,000 mph, and one day your body is going to die. Will a new pair of shoes really help? :p

I use the lakeland electric yoghurt maker too and like Rachelle I have two inserts so that as soon as one batch is used up I can make another. We pop a batch in at 10 pm (hubby sets it up) and I take it out 6 am the next morning when i get up.

We have yoghurt over our breakfast oats and fruit ... I put it on blackberry crumbles and it makes great dips (mint, cream cheese, mustard etc.). We live on the stuff!
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

After years of making my own yogurt I have finally found the way to make mild, creamy yogurt!

I use the Easiyo gadget (but not the easiyo sachets)

In the container I put 2 heaped TB of Yeo Valley Organic FULL FAT natural yogurt, 4 heaped TB dried milk and a good splosh of Moo Organic Semi Skimmed UHT milk. I screw the lid on and shake to mix it all up. I add about half of the milk that's left, screw and shake and then more milk up to the top line and stir to combine.
Then as usual I pour boiling water into the Easiyo, place container inside and leave overnight.

Not a single failure yet! I'm on my third batch from the same starter.
The yogurt is delicious, creamy and mild.

I believe the organic UHT milk makes the big difference. It's 1/3 off at Sainsburys at the moment :money:

    Hope this helps someone.
