The controversial additions to one of the city's busiest commuter routes were first reported by this newspaper last Friday.
The bus lanes, located between Sandown Road and Knock Road, are part of the Belfast Rapid Transit scheme (BRT).
They will operate city-bound and country-bound from 7.30am to 9.30am and 3.30pm to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.0 -

Let the ambulance use the bus laneBe good to the young on their way up you might need them on your way down.0 -
Money_Grabber - I see your point about being stuck behind a Metro bus stopping quite often, but you'll still be flying past the queuing cars...
Sorry, what I meant was that the express buses get stuck behind the "slow" buses and so in effect, all become slow buses. Surely the same thing is going to be a problem with rapid transit and hence, be no better than the current system?Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
I see the bus lanes come into operation today, some feedback from anyone travelling that route would be good.0

Yes, I see what you mean, but my point is that they're allowed to overtake if they want, it's jus that the lane they'd use to overtake is full of cars. Express or not, the buses are still going faster than the cars!Let the ambulance use the bus lane
Ambulances can drive wherever they like, I don't think too many drivers will be getting fines!0 -

I read last week that a driver was fined after being caught on camera shifting into the bus lane to allow an ambulance past, somewhere in England. It was in the paper so it must be true, as we all know.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -
I drove up towards Stormont this evening, nothing in the bus lane, no-one parked. As it was after 6:30 I could drive past all the people staying (slowly) in the right hand lane...
I guess people will catch on eventually.0 -
I use the bus everyday on this route - in the mornings city-bound between around 8.15 and 8.40, I have noticed no difference with the traffic since the bus lane began yesterday. Same going country-bound in the evening on the way home last night at about 5pm - didn't notice any hold-up at all compared to before. Noticed a few cars in the bus lanes when they shouldn't have been - naughty! I reckon when the schools go back it will be a whole other story though....0
