Help! Accepted one job, better one offered - Moral issue

If you've been offered a day rate, is it a temporary role? How long is the contract for? Keep in mind that the agency will say it could be long-term to keep you interested, so go on the length on the contract.Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0

20k is a permanent job and 125 per day is a contract that can be terminated at any time so think long and hard0

Are your morals worth £12000 per year?
I think from the sounds of it, they are.0 -
By all means give back word and take the second job but don't you dare start the 1st job too and dump them after the training - that's just a corrupt thing to do. You'd have to give notice, and if you're planning on leaving without working your notice them that's even worse. If was from the 1st company I'd blacklist you from every working for my company again. You never know what the future holds so down the line you might need that company again.0

I was also wondering if the agency one is through an umbrella company where you have to pay your own tax etc. - that would have a big impact on what ends up in your pocket.
If you want the second job, then take it. But do so without messing the first company around. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Your dilemma would be what notice period is expected of you once you get out of training? they aren't going to let you go easy you know

Plus in my latest new job I've just done 3 weeks and got paid for 1 when payday came round, don't bank on it just for wages coming in when works around you - oh no, you could be wasting time put another way, the trainer really unfortunately was not joking that this month's pay would be a token gesture ..I don't think I want to know what happened to those expecting over the weeks pay who just dropped out during training0 -
If I were in your position, I would go for the £20k job. I am more comfortable with a stable job in an ethical organisation. Plus, if they have a good reputation for treating employees well, remember that you wont be stuck on a £20k salary for an eternity; Hopefully, you will perform well and your salary would increase as well. Theyve obviously offered you the job because they think that you can do it well (otherwise they would have offered it to someone else!)
Im always wary of temp jobs, but that's just how I am :A:EasterBun0 -
If I had the decision to make I would go for the first job. If the second is a contract you don't have savings at the moment to protect you if they end the contract. Also if you feel upset or stressed working for a company that conflicts with your moral values its probably not worth it. Money is not everything and if you have enough money to live and are happy, that beats having a bit more money but being upset each day.
I think its really great that you have these feelings. So many people would chase the money even if it meant doing really bad stuff.0 -

IN 2001 I was made redundant, with no redundancy pay, and I took the first job I was offered, at a salary which was erm just about adequate. 3 days into the Job I was getting recruitment agencies ringing me up about Ltd Company contract jobs, which would have paid twice the rate I had taken. Yes twice, not taking into account the tax advantages.
I chose to sit tight, and lick my wounds, and not take the risk.
In 2009, having been in a new job for just over a year, I was again made redundant, this time with 3 months pay. Again I took the first paying position, which turned out to be a ltd company contract role. For the 1st 6 months I worried exactly what would happen at the end of the contract, and built a buffer (those 3 months pay plus any surplus, which would last 5 months at a real stretch) 2nd contract was started 2 weeks after the first ended, and in 6 years I've been without a contract for perhaps 12 weeks, although I've had to wait whilst security clearance went through, so maybe 20 weeks in total.
What I'd say is that I wish I'd chased the money sooner. :rotfl:
8 years, just about scraping by, because I was scared of not being able to pay the mortgage.0
