Buy to Let mortgage - changes

My OH and his sister have had a buy to let mortgage on their inherited home for the last 5 years. The tenant is now moving out and we want to move in and do some refurbishing before selling it and splitting the money? Can we just keep the buy to let mortgage as it is for 6month - one year?
The more I find out the less I know!

Technically you could refurbish (as it is still a property to be let, you are just not letting it at the moment /tidying up between tenants). Officially you shouldn't live in it, but for only a short time I doubt it is an issue.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
