hello there

I went for an interview yesterday for a council job that i really really want. Now my character referee has contacted me saying that they've got in touch yesterday w/ her asking for a reference. i was wonder ing if anyone knew what this meant-do you think im down to the last few or are they getting references from everyone to help make up their minds???

    Don't bank on it meaning anything, I've known people who's references have been taken up when they've not even been in the running for the job (ie when an internal applicant has been given it and the interview process was fake), causing issues with current employer etc. I think it's just something to give HR managers something to do.

    Thank you Nile I hope so too but yeah you're probabally right rjm2k1 but then i'm thinking time is money-why waste your time asking for references? They were really rushing my friend aswell they emailed her yesterday afternoon asking her fo it and contacted her twice this mrning to email it back!!

    I write a lot of references and I find that councils and NHS just seem to request refs as part of a process, whether the candidate is being progressed or not.

    Contrastingly, the private sector ask for references after the job offer. Sometimes after the person has started!

    But got my fingers crossed for you, OP!
