Post Code Nightmare

I recently moved into an upcoming area. The history of the post code is really dodgy but millions have been spent over the past few years on major regeneration and there is a massive improvement. But because the post code is historically dodgy I can't get decent credit, I even had problems trying to get a phone/broadband account set up.

I have checked my credit file and there is no adverse data.

Why are the financial institutions so slow to have such records of areas updated and why do they look at my post code and not my personal profile?

What have you applied for and been declined? I always thought it was on you as a person rather than the house, address or area.

    chin up, love!
  • First it was for a broadband acc with telephone - they said sorry can't have the telephone account but can have the broadband and this was based on the new post code even though I had been with this provider for the past 2 years before I moved house - can you believe that! They said that I now fail the credit score so I checked my credit profile - nothing at all out of order there, I just moved! Then banks don't want to give me a credit card even though I have one with a blemish free record???????

Just had a thought - could it be that you aren't on the electoral roll yet at your new address? Many councils only update annually and it is important that you are on it when you apply for any kind of credit.

  • I made sure that I registered on the role straight away and even phoned the electorate to make sure that my name is on there - however they confirmed that my name would appear in Aug. But then how long would it be for these financial institutions to update their data?

If they update the electoral roll this month it might be a month or so before it appears on your credit file. When I moved and the address was updated, it was a month after the new roll was published.

could it be to do with the question that is always on those forms "how long have you lived at this address"?

mind you, if you were an existing customer and they turned you down
