Is there anything I can claim for?

Options
With so many adverts/texts/emails flying around telling you they can claim back/against your tax code it got my thinking, is there anything I can claim for myself?

I've never thought about it before so have no idea.

I work for Openreach (Employed), wear a uniform, do a reasonably dirty job, work out of a van not a fixed location, drive my own car to and from work, pay into a union, buy my own lunch etc, live with family.

Just wondering if there's anything out there.

If you launder your own uniform you may be able to claim relief on (I think) £60 a year, although there are some restrictions on what qualifies as a uniform.

Your union fees may be allowable too, check List 3.

You generally can't claim for driving to/from work. Even if you have a company owned vehicle then you usually have to pay your employer back for the fuel used to get to/from work from your after tax income.

Buying your own lunch is usually paid for from after tax income. How about taking a packed lunch? It'll save much more if your intention is to save money.

As said you can claim a small amount for laundering your own employer branded uniform.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • And do it yourself: those companies that do it for you will take their cut.
