Getting my s*** together

Have found these fora useful when browsing. Feel like I should start documenting my financial issues.. hoping it will make me more accountable to myself. I wax lyrical about the benefits of YNAB and stare at it constantly.. then lose interest a month later.

Basically, I have mismanaged finances for about 2 years. I am not in an "impressive" sum of debt. However.. I am stuck on a cycle where I will soon be unable to claw my way back.

Writing this down is a way of trying to gain control.
  • I have no mortgage.
  • I am a private tenant. I pay rent every month.. no missed payments. It is a struggle.
  • I work full time, as does my lovely partner.
  • I have an embarassingly responsible and together job, and it does not fit with my financial situation.. I need to change.
  • I'm done with feeling constantly stressed and victimized by my financial situation.

I feel as though we are constantly teetering on needing to take out a payday loan/not pay rent/not pay a bill. Basically constantly straddling the line of getting well over our heads with our money.

Recently talking to a friend she was talking about her debt. She is young and owes roughly 30 grand purely due to mismanagement of funds. Speaking with her I realised that the way my spending has gone in the last 2 years I am following down a similar road.

This is it, enough.

Maybe I will write something here every day.. Maybe never again.

Anyways..

Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life.. and all that jazz.
