What are the survivors benefits for your spouse? this would be something to look at esp as you say yourself you can expect to live for quite a time with his condition.

You should see an IFA who can help you determine if leaving the pension (and setting up Drawdown) might be a good idea for you or not.

    Cheers.

No, I left the scheme in 2012 and am now deferred.

I am in the process of an amicable divorce and so will have no spouse or other dependant in a few months time.

Many thanks for the interest and info.

then you could be, with your health one person out of a hundred who should leave the pension.

Although I personally would appeal. AS it would take almost as long to go thru the process of transferring and getting your pension started.

"One person out of a hundred who should leave the pension"

    Really?

That few people could gain from transferring?

Ignoring the divorce-related pensions-sharing element of my wife's pot that she's agreed I'm due (she's also a deferred BBC scheme member,) my CETV is just over £350k. This gets me just over ten and a half grand annually from the week after next, or £14k p.a. in five years time. Is that such a good deal?

    That's a genuine question not an opinion - I honestly don't know.

Yes it's over three percent. But to look at it another way, if I were to die aged seventy five, starting now I will have received roughly two hundred and twelve grand (not accounting for inflation I know) and will then leave almost £140k to the BBC scheme with nothing to bequeath to anyone.

Surely I can do better than that outside? Or maybe not?!

There's no "surely" about it - you'd have to bear all the investment risk and all the inflation risk.
Free the dunston one next time too.

Have talked to some IFAs by the way. And they are mostly talking about the CEVs being valued thirty to forty percent higher for transfer purposes!

They're also saying that because guilt yields are low, transfer values are very high at the moment. Is that correct?
