Can't Stop Thinking About Dying
Comments
-
OP - How did the other GP appointment go? I hope they offered a bit more help.
I noticed after my mum died I got very worried about dying too. It lasted about a year - probably something to do with the healing process.
It does sometimes come back but I try to ignore it by telling myself it is something I can't change and that I need to be happy that I am in good health and life is generally good.0 -
Non-belief is not a religion!
"Religion - the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods."
Of course atheism is not a religion. Religion relies on belief in something for which there is not a shred of evidence, so atheism is the exact opposite of that. Atheism is simply about drawing conclusions based on evidence and logic.
Claiming atheism is a religion is like saying not collecting stamps is a hobby.:think::dance:We're gonna be alright, dancin' on a Saturday night:dance:0 -
Equally, there is no proof that there is no afterlife either, so both viewpoints are hypotheses.
no if you say something like there is you have to prove it.
If you think there is one explain also how it works. Its a fantasy a comfort maybe but it cant happen you are dead.
when people say you'll meet again in heaven, how, how old are you, does time stand still when you die, do you age further, what if you have relatives you don't want to see, and do you see all your pets again like the budgie ha:(;):footie:0 -
Sorry that you are feeling this way.
And you are not alone.
Last month we had 3 deaths in our family/relatives/close friends. Two of them were young boys of 26 and 29 years old.
And that made me thinking as well I was down for two days, then my wife cheered me up.
Its true we do think about mortality at some point.
I suggest you contact your GP and I hope and pray all goes well for you and the little baby. Enjoy your baby they are adorable and do the darnest things to make you laugh.
Enjoy life and don't stress.0 -

Atheism is like a religion in that it also requires the believer to put their faith into something that they can't prove.
The evidence and logic of science is just as flawed as religions explanations, the difference being that science will change its conclusions when new evidence is found whereas religion will not.
Think about this:
The Big Bang is considered to be the starting point of the entirety of space. At some point in space-time over 14 billion years ago everything was created from nothing. The discovery of cosmic background radiation all around us confirmed that not only did our entire universe begin at that point, but its space and time began then as well.
Now, a universe that began either existed before its creation to make itself, which is impossible, or it was made by something else. It is impossible that a complete universe began by itself, from nothing.
Religions answer to that is a God (or a being beyond our comprehension) made the universe.
Science says it started from absolute nothing and that's that.
Both solutions seem as far fetched as each other to me.
p.s I'm not religious btw, consider myself as an agnostic theist.0 -
I know that this is an oldish post, but I too have had similar problems in the past, so I felt obligated to comment. Its hard to give a definitive answer to your problem, but one thing I can say, is that anxiety and stress can certainly make someone start to feel the way you do. You are not alone. I can see immediately that you have a new job and a new baby. Those are two very stressful life-altering factors you have right there.
Stress affects everyone differently and everyone has their own (although, not always helpful) coping mechanisms for dealing with this. Often the mechanisms don't work because people don't understand how to better utilise them. The stress/anxieties then build causing a person to lose control. The result is you can end up in a vicious stress and depression cycle.
From my personal experiences I believe you have become an irrational thinker because of this cycle. This thinking will, unfortunetly, only get worse now that depression has kicked in, UNLESS you challenge your mind, and say enough is enough by and actively look for a solution.
Stress = Anxiety
Anxiety + stress = Depression
Depression = irrational thinking
Irrational thinking = Stress + Anxiety (and the cycle starts again)
Your only way to combat this is to break the cycle otherwise it will get worse and may affect your family life. You can break the cycle by seeking help from your GP. You could recieve medication that may help or even therapy sessions that will teach you new coping mechanisms (That I promise you really work). ALOT of people are using anti-depressant medication these days and thus the stigma has almost gone completely. It doesn't mean your weak or anything, just that you are having a period were the challenges of life are getting the better of you. If you want to avoid the doctors try some reading materials. I highly recommend "the chimp paradox", which is highly regarded by many psychiatrists all over the UK (I know as it was recommended to me). Or maybe you can attend some group sessions. these are free and are all over the UK. Its a bit like an AA meeting but without the liquor. They are very relaxed, open and insightful. The only positive thing about depression (if there really is one), is that millions upon millions of people have had it throughout history and as a result there are tons of things out there available to help. You are not alone! The possibilities are endless, so do a little research and find some support your comfortable with.
Best of luck xxx0
