Just started field hockey and looking to get a gum shield has anyone got any recommendations please?
I have seen the opro gold and then there is shock doctor ones not sure which is better?
I rather pay a few extra quid and been able to play without the fear of my teeth being knocked out.
Thanks !

I used shock doctor when playing rugby. Had a few split lips but never lost any teeth! A bit difficult to get to fit though as all the boil types are. Once you get it right it's great. Some dentists also do properly moulded ones by taking a cast of your teeth. These are more expensive obviously but apart from being a better fit I doubt they will give more protection.0

Have used a shock doctor gumshield happily. Have a cheap opro (bronze I think), which is a bit rubish. By far the best I've had was a canterburry gumshield that cost about £15, don't know if they are still available, but the fit I got was great. I've never had a major impact but for minor knocks all have provided adequate protection.
A fully molded at the dentists gumshiled would probably be around £60- 100 and might be worth considering as the fit should be far better. If yours doesn't fit you may well be tempted not to wear it, in which case it will offer no protection.0 -
Seasoned rugby player here.
Speaking from experience. Opro or Shockdoctor I have always used.
Try to avoid the real cheap ones. They are rubbish and fall apart.
I'd happily spend £20+ on a gumshield per season rather than a dentist bill.0 -
do you prefer one over the other or do you find not much difference?0
