What to do with a prize I can't take?

What an amazing prize, Such a shame you can't take it.
I hope you win something bigger and better very soon.If I cared what everyone else thought, I'd be just like everyone else, and there's already too many of them. :A0 -
Ask if you can take the prize and transfer it to a family member, give the holiday away and keep the money. If they will let you.
Always best to be honest, and I too believe in Karma.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I won a competition to win 2 nights in Cornwall last year. We where planning on going down for Valentines and it would have been lovely. We live in Yorkshire mind and the trip was going to take around 12 hours on a coach! The week leading up to the trip I actually fell ill and we had to cancel. They where lovely and said we could rebook, however we only had till the end of March to use it up. They where also very good and said we could pass it on to someone we know. However, the chance of finding someone we know to travel to the other side of the country to spend two nights there within the month where slim. So the trip ended up being missed and it is a real shame. I am very careful for what trips I enter for now and consider all eventualities. Shame you can't take this trip, it is a lovely win.
I did also win a one night in London for a football final. The final was on a Sunday though and we decided to decline the prize. That was fine as we had not accepted it before hand.Wins of 20210 -
A couple of years ago in the Advents I won what I thought was a 2 night stay at a Spa in Cornwall with Dorset Cereals but turned out to be for only one night.
As it was too far to travel just for the one night I declined the prize and asked them to redraw. They were really nice about it and I was really surprised when they said they would send me a case of their cereals instead which I wasn't expecting at all.
So you may find by declining they might send you a consolation prize, no guarantees though, as I think a lot of companies have tightened their belts recently.Growing old is unavoidable. However, growing up is still optional.0 -
Well done on winning. I would love to visit Rome. Winning a break to Rome is actually on my wishlist.0

i entered a competition several years ago to win a holiday to Ibiza, not noticing the restrictive travel dates, i was actually already on holiday on the dates specified. i got a very abrupt email back virtually telling me off for having entered it and that it was non-transferable and they would redraw immediately

on the other hand..... i won a Norwegian fjords cruise and in between entering the competition and winning it, i'd been offered 2 months work with my company out in New York, and jumped at the opportunity. despite the t's&c's saying it was non-transferable, i explained very politely my situation to the person running the competition and they let me give the prize to my folks
summary: ask them nicely, you never know. but you may get response #1 rather than response #2 :rotfl::rotfl:====================================
Best win all time - World Cup Final Trip to Japan :j0 -
Personally I would ask them to redraw it. I won tix to Camp Bestival last year but my ex refused to budge on his weekend with my daughter so we couldn't go and I asked them to redraw a winner who would hopefully enjoy the prize. They were fine about it.2017 wins = £1350
2016 wins = £125 (18 months off comps)
2015 wins = £6,460
2014 wins = £1,3500 -

Just to say this is not always the case, I have amended 4 holiday wins in the past, one to another family member ( Canada ) another to change the amount of people and others to not have parts of a prize- spa treatments etc for which they actually gave a choice of alternates rather than book it in, we even got one delayed for a year so although it does depend on the company it is certainly possible, just be polite throughout whatever the outcomeJuly 2015 Wins- Shaun The Sheep Goody Bag, 4x Books
Year to date: £786
Total to date ( Since 2008 ) = £37,345 :eek:0
