Wondered if someone could shed some light , I left the UK in 2005 payed up my outstanding Barclaycard Bill. Virtually 10 years to the day I've received an email from a company called bpo collections

It's possibly/probably not a scam, but if the debt is 10 years old it is unenforceable anyway. Just ignore the letter.

It may possibly be that you had a tiny balance left and the amount has increased because of interest/fees?

As stated the debt is unrecoverable as it's over 6 years old, but I'd suggest speaking to Barclaycard just in case there's been any fraud or identity theft which could affect you should you return to the UK.

To be fair he does not state either way - but would you inform anybody of a new correspondence address if you believed you paid off the debt.

BPO are a part of the Lowell group, there may of been a residual balance on the account, with added interest etc, that you were unaware of.

Anyway the debt will be statute barred now, the best way to put this to bed is to respond with a letter stating this, and advising them not to contact you again.
