Holidays aren't a biological imperative, babies are.

People seem to think because we can use our opposable thumbs to hold an iPhone and play Angry Birds we're somehow the only species without the biological imperative to reproduce. We're a higher species but not that high.

That said I do think CB should be limited to two reproductions and be calculated based on gross rather than net income.
  • Our entire quasi-socialist system is based on having enough people having enough children to work, and pay into the pension/nhs money pots. If our birth-rate declines, we're in real doggy doo.

The benefits system wasn't developed because of worries about the birth rate.

The country got wealthier, the government wanted some of the action so increased tax take, they ran out of things to spend it on so started giving back to people creating an inefficient transfer of tax/ benefits backwards and forwards.

We should be grateful we can afford to do this I suppose.

    Are you serious???

Yes, children cost money. That's why having (or not having) children is a choice.

I like holidays. Holidays cost money, should I expect other taxpayers to subsidise mine???
The world as we know it wouldn't grind to a halt if you stopped having holidays, it would if no one had children

really? would it? If you're 60 or 70 there're like 4 billion more people since you were born!

We can surely redistribute the ones we have!!!

I'm not sure why Britons hate children so much. I believe it to be a unique trait. The rest of the world see children as being a necessary part of the continuation of society, culture and the species, the British see them as a petty annoyance to be pushed out of the way.

I'm not saying "don't have children", I'm saying "be prepared to pay to feed and clothe them if you want them".

Which is basic common sense but if you point this out to people they accuse you of being a child hater. Lol.

Important principle of the welfare state that everyone gets a bit back in the way of a universal benefit. The moment someone is asked to pay in and gets nothing back, the welfare state ends.

    Exactly....
