Mortgages and maternity pay

We are thinking of putting an offer in for a house, when I called about additional borrowing I gave them the figure on my latest p60. My weekly wage increased half way through last tax year as I wasn't claiming childcare vouchers. I am currently on maternity pay since May but going back full time shortly, if I have to prove my income by my latest payslips will they ask for most recent or ones before maternity?

In my experience, they'll want the most recent (as they say that they have no guarantee that you'll be going back to work). They'll also want to factor in childcare costs into your affordability calculations.

Ideally it would be worth waiting until you've been back at work a while before applying, but obviously it's not always that simple (especially when you've seen a house you like).
  • We were almost in this position but remortgaged just before MP kicked in.

However when talking to our mortgage adviser we were told that my employers HR dept could provide a letter to confirm our agreement for my return to work and the hours/pay etc.
I dont know if it was mortgage company specific but its worth asking your lender to see if this would suffice.
