Mixing / sheering out super high coverage foundations: economical & versatile?

Options
I recently watched Beauty YouTuber, Wayne Goss, say in one of his videos how Illamasqua Rich Foundation is great value because as well as being used 'as is' to provide very high coverage (it can disguise scars and tattoos), it can also be 'sheered out' with moisturiser to give foundation / bb cream coverage, as needed.

This got me thinking: how adaptable and money-saving might it be if we were to customise our own makeup from just 1 - 2 pots of camouflage foundation, plus moisturiser?

If we were after a healthy shimmery glow we could sheer it out with illuminating moisturiser; if we were having a dry day we could use a richer moisturiser; for oily skin the base could be mixed with a matte primer; a good skin day and hot sticky weather we could make a lovely light BB cream sheering out the makeup base with extra (light) lotion...

Ah the possibilities! :j Is anyone else thinking that this is quite a good, workable idea? Has anyone here had experience of doing the above? If so, what 'camouflage foundation' brands and moisturiser combos have worked well?

Let's brainstorm! :)

    :) I've done this lots.

Mix your regular foundation with your usual moisturiser. Always works fine and is similar in cover to a BB. Or you can adjust quantities to suit.

They now have Cover FX drops designed for this purpose.

I mix Make Up Forever HD with Loreal Infallible Matte and this gives flawless coverage but stays matte (the HD gets a bit glowy on me).
Proud to be a moneysaver :)

I have been doing this for years, I adjust what I mix with according to how I want to look or how my skin is behaving, I always use EL Doublewear as its stable and mixes well without losing pigment, currently mixing DW with MAC prep and prime for good coverage, oil control and a dewy look :)

Ive sheered out Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover foundation with Benefit High Beam with no problems. I dont think i saved any money though because they are both premium branded products.
