Using gas cooker when I'm used to electric

Thank you; I feel a tad more encouraged to give it a go now. I'm sure it's just fear of the unknown, but all your tips and experiences are most welcome.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

I'd suggest that you practise when MrLW's at home, then you can blame him if anything goes wrong;).
I've cooked with both over the years. My preference would probably be what you had before (gas hob, electric oven) but it's like anything new it just takes a bit of getting used to. I'm sure you'll be fine.:)0 -
We lived in various married quarters for 9 years, and had to just get used to using whatever type of cooker was there - sometimes it was electric, sometimes gas.
I preferred gas, so when we left the Forces and moved here we bought a gas one, which is still going strong 32 years later!
Its instruction book said that "These days, gas cookers don't need to be pre-heated; just light it and put the food straight in!" so I always have and it's always been fine.
I dread it breaking though, as I know the next one we buy won't last nearly as long

He's pretty much banned from the kitchen when I'm working in there, unless he's actually doing a useful task (such as washing up). I get very nervous and shaky if he's just sitting watching me.:DI'd suggest that you practise when MrLW's at home, then you can blame him if anything goes wrong;).If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
We've had a gas oven since we moved and I hate it! It's so difficult to cook a lot of food. Only the stuff on the top shelf cooks so the other 2 shelves are useless, and it does burn the one side.
Never had any issues with our electric fan oven, can't wait to get a new one when we re-do our kitchen. I much prefer gas hobs though, there isn't so much control over an electric one.
The only plus of the gas oven is that it's a lot easier to clean. Food doesn't get burnt onto the bottom because the bottom doesn't get hot.0 -
TBH, your cooker sounds faulty to me, dirty_magic. It would be worth having a gas engineer take a look at it. or ask the landlord to arrange that if you're renting.
Something's certainly not right if it only cooks at the top.0 -
I did wonder myself tbh. It's only just been installed, he said it's safe but don't know if he checked the function. It's a second hand temporary oven until we sort the kitchen out.0
