Rejected by Barclays...what now?

Hello there – So after a truly stressful month or so, my girlfriend and I were rejected by barclays due to there being more than 3 late payments on my credit file over the past two years. We were told by several barclay's advisors that as long as there were none in the past 6 months we'd be fine due to our deposit and incomes.

I've checked my credit report and there has been nine late payments since 2011 – this was mainly due to travelling from London and back to visit my very sick sister. What vodafone didn't bother to tell me was that I could have paid it in instalments and then that wouldn't have blemished my account.

Does anyone have any advice where we can go from here and what mortgage would be most likely be best for us? My parents have offered to be guarantors if we need them.

I've tried to contact Vodafone but they said they keep their the blemishes on file for 6 years... that's 2020! Would a mortgage broker be the best way to go to find us a a good deal?

PS. The Barclay's process was horrendous, our advisor was on holiday constantly, the person who took over our case didn't seem to have a clue and there was zero communication apart from the odd email.

Any decent broker would have told you that's an automatic decline.

You should ask friends and relatives for a recommendation of a good whole market broker.

No. We're talking specifically about Barclays.
    Payment arrears/missed payments

Any adverse credit identified, as detailed below, must be declined
Arrears of 3 or more months on any one account in the last 6 months
Cumulative amount of arrears at any point in the last 2 years of 3 or more monthly payments on any one account, ie 3 or more instances of a late payment

Applications can be considered where the adverse appears to be inconsistent or out of character when compared to other Credit Account Information Sharing (CAIS) records or where documentary evidence of a settled dispute has been provided by the customer

Hi guys, thanks for the replies and advice. Just got off the phone with a local broker and we're arranged a meeting with a view to getting an answer from lenders by thursday at the latest - which considering the effort put in with Barclays is incredible. Interesting, he said that some of the smaller lenders like Newcastle or etc will be more keen due to our deposit and also reckons that some lenders don't take mobile phones into account when decision making.

Really wish we'd have gone down this route first, we only thought of Barclay's as my partner works for them and we thought we'd be able to get a decent deal.

Don't take mobile phones into account? Sounds suspicious to me. Is that correct?

No idea, I guess we'll know more tomorrow when we have the meeting. I guess this is all my fault for being a careless student. Fingers crossed we can get something sorted.

Perhaps your partner should get another job elsewhere now you have seen what a shower they are!
