Present ideas for daughter's first birthday

Right, wanting to pick your brains for ideas. This is my second daughter and we already have just about everything from first time around! Both me and my mum are trying to find something good to get her, that is significantly different from things that she has already inherited from her older sister (who is 4, so no issues about not wanting to pass things down as she has outgrown them). Can't see the point in wasting money on stuff that is similar to what she already plays with, but got to get her something for her birthday obviously!
I've been looking at the Fisher Price bounce and spin zebra which looks a bit different to anything we've got, or maybe a more traditional type rocking horse, but other than that, I haven't seen anything much to inspire me.
Can anyone suggest anything that has been a hit with their kids? Personal recommendation is always useful.

My collegue got his 1 year old daughter a garden swing which went down well!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Why not put some money in her CTF if she already has lots of toys0

They already have building society accounts which I pay into each month by SO. Think mum is going to pay some in on bdays and christmas, but I'd really like to buy her something to open. Got a couple of small bits and bobs in Boots clearance, but looking for a main present idea.0 -

Yes, like that idea, although it's not until the end of October, so no proper use until next year. But does that really matter..... hmmmm. There are some good Little Tykes climbing frame type things too, with slides. DD1 never had one of those, so perhaps that's an idea.
Any other ideas?0 -
wow I am in exactly the same position as you, 2 daughters, 1st birthday coming up , loads of toys already, no idea what to get .....!!!

It's a tough call isn't it. You feel mean not getting them a decent present, but it's crazy just buying more of whatever they've already got - most of it's just a variation on a theme. We've got walkers, toys to encourange standing, shape sorters, bricks, trikes, musical stuff, books galore, door bouncers, teletubbies including 3 la-las... don't ask, cuddly toys, happyland, you name it. I'm well and truly stuck.
DD1 wants me to get her an Iggle Piggle toy but I've got a feeling that there's an ulterior motive and she'll try to pinch it. DD2 not particularly interested in cbeebies yet! :rotfl:0 -
And then there's Christmas too of course....! :rolleyes:0

When my son was 18mths I got him a dora the explora talking trampolene, which has been a firm favourite ever since.
but for his first birthday I got him a pop up tent with ball in, he loved it and still does.
or how about an inflatable pool you can fill with balls?0 -
I would second the swing idea - i really wouldn't worry too much about the time of year (unless you live in the rockies or iceland or somewhere!). Having a garden toy in a safe place can be a godsend when the weather is horrible and you want 5 mins peace and quiet with some fresh air, but its too nasty to go to the park or shops etc.
anyway, after this horrid summer you would think we were due a lovely mild winter ;-)
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this responser.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!

i dont really go in for the material things.
for years and years i would rather spend my money on going out than buying something, so seeing a band live instead of buying the CD.
so why not go out for the day? go swimming or go to kids kingdom or something? im the oldest of 6 kids and the amount of random junk that accumulates is horrifiying.:A Boots Tart :A0
