How are you at coping with angry customers coming in to shout at you for having sold them something they didn't want at a price they didn't want to pay? If that's your thing then I'd imagine you'll be an ideal candidate for Arnold Shark.

Are you a good sales person? If you are good, then the financial rewards are generous. I've seen car sales positions with starting salary of 35k +

My dad worked for arnold clark for a short while.

Much as you would expect from car sales i suppose.

    - £10 Deduction from wages for every customer for whom you dont get an email address.
    - £100 deduction from wages for logging into a machine under another users logon (i see why they do it but a new start lost a grand in his first month because no one explained the rule to him.)
    - my dad was selling some insurance product for commission.. There was a fairly aggressive drive to sell this product then A head office manager apparently showed up one day and said ' you dont sell enough of this product to warrant paying comission... So we will now no longer pay you to sell it... But your sales targets for this product are still in force'. This made a big diffrence to his take home pay.

So, to me anyway, it sounded like a nightmare but it does seem to be in line with a lot of high pressure sales roles. If you are a salesman and willing to work hard then there is definately money in it but it is old school hard sales. My old man didnt know much about cars. Its not a job selling cars it is a job selling finance.

The main non financial issue my dad had was having to sell vehicles which had not been checked. Around 25% of whats on the forecourt had yet to be checked for safety and my dad once sold a car to someone and then had to call them back the next day to say the car had been deemed unrepairable.... but would you like to come back and look at some of my other cars

I've worked at a few car dealerships in my time but not as a salesperson. What I do know though is that you will work long hours, every saturday and probably every other sunday with a day off in the week.

A sales job at a car dealership is all about targets and getting commission. You'll have a very low basic and if you miss your targets month after month you'll be out. It's a job with a high turnover.

Saying that you can build up a huge contact list of customers and they will come back to you again and again. I used to know a woman at Mercedes and a man at Audi and they were both in sales and had been there forever and a day. They used to sell a huge number of cars month in, month out.

You might like it, you don't have to have a huge knowledge of cars. A lot of customers will know more than you. I think they key to sales is that you need to be 'likeable'.
