Searches On Credit File, How Long?
Options
Hi all,
I have just got my credit file from Experian. :money:
I have in the past year since 07/08/2006, had 13 Credit searches, 3 of which are from halifax which i have only applied once and they are within 3 days of one another and another company who i dont know have done a personal loan search of £505 over 42 months and 36 months, what a random number and i haven't got a clue what for! I can save £500 in two months so i will have to find out who Cyldesdale Fin Ser L are as thats what they come up as on the report.
I heard that searches stay on for 6 months but these are in the past 12 months meaning that my credit search history is going to be really bad for another 12 months.
I have worked out that in November, with the credit searches on for 6 months i will have 2 searches, one from June and one from July.
My credit history past is:
Utilities - orange - Payments up to date, never late or missed
Next Directory - Settled in 2006 (I only ever spent £4 on the catalogue)
Current Account Overdraft - £50 - Payments up to date, never late or missed
HFC Credit sale - £400 - Settled in march, no missed payments, never late
Credit Card - £200 - No missed payments never late, settled each month
The CC is one of the searches that will be on in November if they aren't looked at after 6 months old.
So what i am asking is, do they stay on for 12 months but as long as theres not many searches in the last 6 months you are ok or is it for the whole 12 months they check!
Argh hope you understand as i never knew searches hurt your score. Also my score is something 365 with experian before i took out the CC to build my score up. The CC is 2 months old so in November it will be 6 months old.
Thank you

Searches stay on for 12 months, but are looked at in 3 month periods eg
0-3 Months (no of searches)
4-6 Months (no of searches)
7-12 Months (no of searches)
Companies mainly look at the last 3- 6 months when looking into it.0 -
Aw thank you for that, I was really scared! I know i messed up my credit profile but only with regards to searches i have never defaulted!
Thanks BUTLERS 1982 your a star0 -
Also should i find out what the £505 loan is for as i remeber applying for finance for a laptop buy now pay in 6 months but only the once and these are in a day of each other.
Also in November when I will have 2 searches in last 6 months, is this acceptable for a loan with halifax?

I just want to ask, in November i will have 3 searches on my file if i dont manage to get 1 removed. I will be applying with my bank halifax, BUT i am also currently trying to get a search done by them off.
I have been told i will get rang back twice and noone has got in touch, they said they will have to find the phonecall and listen o it as i was given wrong information to lead to the application. If the woman hadn't have lied i wouldn't have gone through with the application as i knew (until she tol me differently) that i couldnt get a loan unless i held a current account for 6 months.
With this new information that i could and that i had a good chance of getting the loan the woman advised me to apply onlince as it was a better rate and that the rule of having a current account if under 21 was totally wrong.
I was gutted when i was declined but i should have gone with my instinct that it was wrong.
What should i do to get the search off my file,
If i cant get it off i will have 3 searches in the past 6 months eeek is this bad???
please any comments welcome0
