I have plan for the soil; weekly wheelie bin collection round my way, reckon 1m^3 a week in there, the rest I can lob over the fence, hide in neighbours bins and redistribute around the neighbourhood at night.

I'm working on 3m^3 a week without getting busted

Side benefit of moving ten tons of soil by hand per week is that you'd be stronger than a muel

Your bin does have a weight limit over which council workers don't have to and won't touch it. Usually 60kg. The bin itself has a weight and I imagine your neighbours also want to use their bins for their own rubbish so maybe 10kg of soil per bin.

1 cubic metre of soil weighs about 1,600kg. So you'd need 160 neighbours willing to allow you to put a bag of soil in each of their bins each week to shift just one cubic metre.

Soil isn't exactly light if you filled your 240 litre bin with just soil it would be too heavy to pull. It would weigh several hundred kilograms. If you've ever done gardening a wheelbarrow gets heavy quite quickly. Shifting that much soil is a hard job.

I think that you could do this in the US or France as in those countries you own the land under your feet.

You'd need permission from the Australian authorities, in case you got that far. They're not keen on illegal aliens arriving without the correct paperwork.

You might consider expanding by building a giant tunnel under your neighbours' houses and beyond, rather than digging straight down. It could get a bit hot once you get to the centre of the Earth.

There wasn't much support for that idea, this seems to have more traction

I think you're all getting too hung up on the soil: by my reckoning there is only a few mtr of that to get through before we hit some of the more interesting substances.

I'm hoping for salt, as I could then solution mine (as industry does near me) using water to dissolve it and pumping the solution away down the storm drains.

Could you put a small amount down your trousers then let it dribble out each time you walk around the exercise yard?
    I think....
