It would only be fraud if you had knowingly submitted an applicaton yourself and didn't disclose it.
As it was an online application there is no proof you were there and knew what he was doing.
I think it will show on the credit search and will be declined. If your other half calls the company asking why, they may say due to level of current borrowing which will mean he asks you questions as he is debt free.0 -
I will call them first thing monday and explain. Hopefully they will still accept it as this is only debt and our affordability is still good taking into account my debt payments. Hopefully I've contacted them in time. Not sure how long process is usually.
Thank you all for your advice.0 -
Would I be best emailing them now so they get it first thing Monday and then my call backs up the email.
I'm hoping because we are already a customer with our mortgage they may be a bit lenient and still progress with the application. If they do I take it the paperwork they send through to us will mention my debts on it?
Sorry for all the questions, I've never found myself in this position before and I'm a worrier :-(0 -
Was going through the lenders loan application to see what questions he answered and when it comes to finance they've asked
- what our mortgage payment is and
- what our total monthly outgoing including any credit. It doesn't ask us to list our outgoings and doesnt ask us to list any credit.
At the worst he will have been slightly light on the monthly outgoings.
So shall I call to say that these might be slightly more than stated on the form. I roughly pay £170 per month on my cc.
Feel slightly better as he hasn't unknowingly lied outright by saying I had no debt......0 -
Could you prove your OH didn't know about your debt?Thinking critically since 1996....0

By far the best option would be to tell him about the debt, otherwise this could happen again.
It may be believed that he didn't know about it once, but if it happens more than once it's less likely he'll be believed.
I'm not saying it will come to this, but you don't want him to find out because the police come knocking on the door asking about fraud do you? What will your verse be?

If the questions haven't been asked. Then in terms of the application little damage will have been done. Given your income and the fact you already owe £9k in your name alone. My instinct is that they will decline the joint application.0 -
I pay for the cc out my own account. That's the only proof.
But I have since found out by looking at the loan application online it doesn't ask about debts direct. It asks for monthly mortgage payment amount and monthly outgoings amount incl any debt payments (an overall amount) not in detail of each outgoing.
So if anything he's just been a bit under on the amount of the monthly outgoing.
So I could call them on Monday saying we miscalculated and want to amend our monthly outgoing by £180.
Taking into account our mortgage, our outgoings and my cc payments we still have around £1k spare each month so can comfortably pay the loan repayment.
I just panicked thinking they had asked the question direct on the form about outstanding debt and obviously with him not knowing about mine I worried about him not declaring it if asked. But he wasn't asked direct.
I have no problem it coming up on the credit check as they can see I pay ontime and the amount I pay ontime.
Thank you all so much though for your advice.0
