Is it still ok to get Solar

Good Morning,
I am due to move house this month and want to get solar panels for it. However I am a bit confused about the recent news about the government no longer supporting solar and something about ROC no longer being given to systems below 5Kw.
From reading past posts it seems to be that 4KW are the ideal system size for a house.
Does this affect home owners? Will I still get FIT if I have the panels installed around December time?
Thank You

Hi. Quick reply (off for lunch). It's a good deal if you get a sensible price.
ROC's (and CfD's) are subsidies for the big ground mount systems. For domestic systems you only need to follow the FiT subsidy.
Any day now we'll find out how much PV was installed in the 2nd qtr. The level of installs will determine the next degression. Expect (my best bet) another cut on the 1/10/15 of 3.5%.
The next cut will be 1/1/16, based on installs in July, August and Sept.
However, the government is carrying out some sort of FiT review now, so you will need to keep an eye on the news, and this board to see if anything significant happens ...... there are rumours of a large cut, but we'll have to see.
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.0 -
I thought once you are 'tied in' to your tarrif the government couldnt change it ?0

Once your FiT application is processed you are indeed tied in for 20 years but at the end of each calendar quarter the level of FITs can change depending on how much was installed nationally over a preceding quarter (there is a lag to enable data to be collected). This degression can only be zero for 2 quarters in a row and then the FiT must reduce by at least 3.5% (I think).
As Mart says, a review is underway, so changes might result for new installs.0
