Credit Report Problem

Hi All, i'm new to the boards so sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Ok my problem is this, I have been refused credit quite a bit on the past, on small things such as buying a tv.

I'm a home owner with an outstanding mortgage, and a couple of other loans and credit cards.

I wanted to see my cedit scores to find out the problem and so went to check my file .com

It turns out my credit score for all 3 agencies is
  • Equifax - 848 (4/5 stars, Good)
  • Call Credit - 896 (4/5 stars, Good)
  • Experian - 436 (1/5 stars, Bad)
So it look at thewse credit reports and the two good scores have all relvant information about me, full loan and credit crads history's etc along with the electrol roll.

Experian have almost no information about me, in fact, the only information that have is the electrol role, which only states my current address, which is un confirmed by royal mail.

Ok, so i need to remedy this, which is hopefully where i will get some help :-)

Does anyone have any advice on how i can take action on this? whats next? is there a number i can call Experian on?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Not all companies subscribe to Experian. They need to put the information on Experian, so there is no point contacting experian. You need to contact each individual creditor and ask them to update your experian credit file.
  • Hi, sorry for my ignorance here.

Are you saing i will need to contact all the credit card companies, mortgage lenders, banks etc to have the records updated?

Also, who would i contact about the lacl of history for the electoral role? The information on my credit report for the other two agencies has the previous occupants of all addresses as well as myself on there. Experian just has me at my current address.

    thanks for the help

Sorry mate yes, seems asthough they havent subscribed.

Have you done a full search? I mean using your full name, and date of birth? that can also show missing information.

With ref to linked address, you need to contact the "searcher" ie, experian to get them to link each account up.
  • Hi, I paid for a full search of the 3 agencies on checkmyfile, i also got the credit score for each on top of that.

    I have spoken to someone at checkmyfile and they said;

Experian uses a different kind of credit check than the other two. They dont store information on things such as Credit Cards etc. They would be used for peoples such as Landlords or Employers for a credit check.

    Any ideas?

The scores you quote are meaningless as they exclude many important factors with regard to your personal situation and not used by lenders. They are nothing more than a cynical way for CRAs to make money. You can have a score of 999 and have £100k unsecured credit - supposedly a perfect score but nobody in their right mind will give you extra credit.

The person at checkmyfile is talking rubbish. If anything experian has more business put their way than equifax and certainly more than goes to call credit.

Provided there is nothing wrong on the files I would ignore them. Get yourself on the electoral role if you are not already and just think about the factors that may stop you being accepted - eg affordability, number of applications youve made, number of missed payments. If youve made a lot of apps or missed payments, time is the great healer so try again in a few months. If you have a high outstanding debt relative to your income (and are making a large amount of payments each months) the chances are you will not get more credit from a prime lender.

Also check that there is no blip with the system which means that your address is being represented in a different format to normal, and hence the history is missing.

    Absolute rubbish.

Contact the companies and ask them to update your credit file. Thats the reason. Experian are the best known and should have the most comprensive information
  • Ok, thanks for all the help, i best start calling people

If you've been told that, then you've been told absolute garbage. Checkmyfile are the newest, smallest and least able to provide comprehensive credit reports. Experian or Equifax should ideally be used.

I think you need to clarify a couple of points to understand exactly what is happening here

Firstly, Experian, Equifax, and Call Credit are credit reference agencies, their role is to collate and publish upon request data relating to things such as an individuals payment history, elector roll status, and other details such as court orders and CIFAS (fraud) data.

Checkmyfile is not a credit reference agency, they are merely a 3rd party who will obtain copies if your “credit file” from the other three licensed agencies and interpret the data to provide their own report on your behalf.

The reason why checkmyfile are unable to provide a full data set from Experian is because Experian wont provide anything other than basic data to checkmyfile, this is because Experian run their own “Credit Expert” service which is a similar product to the checkmyfile site, and hence they do not wish to assist a direct competitor to that specific service
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
