FTB New build - Internal job promotion/ house delays

Hi all - long time reader of these forums but first time poster, hoping some of you have some advice for me
We are FTB buying a new build (contracts exchanged back in January) with the view that the house would be completed by July/Aug, with the longstop date put into the contract as 28th Aug. Mortgage all went through ok, and we had to re-apply which also went through ok as the house wasn’t ready by the original estimate of end of July. (We knew this would happen so it’s ok as it’s something we had anticipated).
My boyfriend recently applied for a job in the current company he works with now and received a job offer today. It is slightly more money but in one of the offices closer to our house, so it is walkable. (Which means he no longer has to commute to London thus saving £5k+ on his train ticket per annum and would get rid of the 2 hour + each way commute my boyfriend has to make). :T
Anyway to cut a long story short, they would like him to start the job mid-September, which we thought would be great as it means we would be in the house etc. Spoke to the builders today even though our longstop date is at the end of Aug it looks like they won’t be ready to give notice to complete until at least mid-September. I am not too happy about this as it looks like our house seems to be the one they are paying least attention to as they have readily admitted our one is behind schedule due to the cement tower being in our back garden.
I guess what I am trying to ask is what can we do to try and make the builders get a move on? I’m concerned if we were to tell the mortgage company about my boyfriend’s new job (even though it’s the same company and no probation period) they may rescind the mortgage offer and I would rather not go through the process of applying again with another company, as I'm surprised we were approved for a mortgage as my credit history isn't the best. If push came to shove I guess we would walk away from the house as this job is a great opportunity for him, but I’d rather we didn’t as we are in love with the house.

You don't have to tell the lender he's been promoted, as it's internal, not a new employer.
The other stuff, you're on your own. You can't do much to get a builder to build faster.I am a mortgage broker. Well, if that longstop date is written into your contract, you can get your solicitor to put pressure on. Have a look at the terms in the contract, but you could start thinking about compensation for hotel costs, storage costs for furniture etc., but then the builder might have the option to just disband the contract etc., so it's something you should discuss with your conveyancing solicitor.0
