RTE channels can be got on Freeview but it must be HD freeview.

Not being smart 'warmhands', but does an HD TV with Freeview count as "HD Freeview", or are you saying you would you need a stand alone HD Freeview box to get RTE? I only ask because I've just recently bought a brand new Samsung 48" HD/WiFi/all bells and whistles Smart TV, I get about half a dozen HD channels (BBC/ITV/CH4 etc, but I still don't get RTE here in Newcastle!

The latest TV should have a HD tuner for freeview if you are in the local reception AREA?

    Newcastle? I am not sure?

That's what I thought "ballyblack", I was just looking for clarification in case there is something I'm doing wrong. I guess the point I'm making is that it doesn't matter if you have HD Freeview or not, it still depends which transmitter you receive your signal from whether you'll get RTE. So it's not strictly true that if you have HD Freeview you'll automatically get RTE.

I've checked at the Digital TV link posted by "Old Git" earlier, and the channels listed as available at my postcode are indeed the ones I get - and RTE isn't listed.

Fivebob...... As you are in Newcastle, you will be quite close to one of the Southern transmitters. I don't know all the technicalities but I believe if you get a second Ariel and point it to your closest transmitter in Southern Ireland, you should get all the RTE channels from it..... As I say, I'm not sure how you do it technically but I'm sure some lovely person will come along and advise us........ ANYONE ?????

I use Virgin Media. £28.50 for 50MB internet.

I have no use for a landline and Virgin are the only ones offering this type of service.
