Advice on loan repayment responsibility

I live in the same house as my ex partner. The mortgage is in both names. we have a joint bank account for all house bills and our own separate accounts. I have just discovered a £7.5k credit into the joint bank account. The day it went in it was transferred straight out. On further digging it was a loan and he has transferred it to his own personal account. As far as I know the loan was only in his name. I haven't signed anything. He doesn't work and receives benefits and already has an existing £8k that i know he lied and said he was working and earning £50k per year. I assume he has lied for the £7.5k recent one. Two questions - if he doesn't make his payments for the £7.5k, am I liable as the money went into a bank account with my name on it, as well as his? Can the house be used to pay the loan if he doesn't make his payments? Thanks for your help

Whoever's name is on the agreement is responsible.
It the loan was secured on the house, then the lender would have a claim on the house.0 -
I would imagine that the repayments are scheduled to come out of the joint account as the account used to receive the loan is normally the one that repayments tend to be set up against.
A bit of a worry. You need to find out otherwise you will end up paying off part of his loan effectively..Its an unsecured loan so the house isn't involvedThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It wouldn't be unknown for people to make fraudulent applications in the someone elses name. Given that they have lied in the past this could be a distinct possibility. I would check all of my credit files asap!£1000 Emergency fund No90 £1000/1000

Thank you for helping alleviate some of my initial fears. Guess I need to do a bit more investigating!0

Thanks Andy. Hadn't thought of the loan not being in his name, as a possibility. Oh my!0

Get hold of all 3 of your credit files (Experian, Equifax and Call Credit) to see if there's anything showing up on them that shouldn't be...like this loan.0
