Cancelling Gym Membership xercise4less

I had a 12 month contract which expired either last month or the month before
I went on to the contact us page for xercise4less and sent them a message asking what i needed to do in order to cancel my membership. This was about a week before the next payment was due to leave my account i didn't receive a response so i just cancelled the direct debit.
I received a letter today saying i have been charged a £25 admin fee + £14.99. Is there anything i can do?

Dig outr your contract. £25 is excessive, but if the contract says this, then you should pay.
When you cancel a contract, you do it by cancelling the contract, not by stopping paying. Stopping paying puts you in this sort of mess and leaves the contract running.0 -

This is true, however, the good news is, this is unlikely to be recorded on your credit file, so you can tell them to swivel for there 25 quid, you might get a couple of letters, then they will move on to more pressing business.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
