Expat Mortgages

Options
Hello,
my husband is due to move to Switzerland for work from Oct this year. We come to the end of our fixed mortgage deal in Jan 2017.
Myself and our children will still be in the UK full time staying in our home with my husband coming over no more that 90 days a year so that he retains his swiss residency.
I know there are certain mortgages available in these circumstances (my husband will be paying the mortgage on his salary alone as I dont work)
My question is where to start finding them? Will in need to call individual lenders or is there a comparison site? We tried calling London and County as recommended on here but they said they couldnt help us. Are the rates on these types of mortgages generally higher?
Not sure where to start so any pointers would be most welcome
Thanks in advance

  • Hi Ellie,

There isnt a comparison website for expat mortgages as these lenders are in and out of the market dependant on how much risk they are taking in the UK market as they all have a tolerance based on what their risk departments are telling them.

With regards to your husband being overseas away from the UK and the main earner when you come to refinance you will be looking at needing an expat mortgage as he is based overseas.

Just to give you an idea from experience that lending at 70% for expats the rates are around 3.99% and if you have a 60% LTV mortgage rates are around 3.53%. Arrangement fees depend on lender but vary from GBP500 up to 1.25%. These can be offset against any CGT that you make on the gain in the property.

Just input into google 'expat mortgage' and a range of broker should come up that you can contact.
