A little lost and unsure of what to do next

Hi, I'm a little nervous posting here, since I'm not really familiar with the site, and I'm also in the US at the moment. My friend suggested I tried looking around here and asking for help, and since I'm not quite sure whether I should be asking here or not, I thought maybe I'd just jump in and make a post to see if I can get any advise.
I'm 20, and I was staying with my parents for a while. I was alright, I had a job and such, and I got a bank account.
Before that I had been in a tough situation, but I got out of it just fine. This time, I'm a bit more nervous as to what to do.
I had to suddenly leave because they were not allowed to keep me in their home for as long as I was, due to their contract in the apartment they were renting. I was facing being homeless, and some friends in another state told me I could stay with them until I figured out what to do.
Having nothing more than my last paycheck and my credit card, I headed about six states over, shipped all my things, and I have been here for a bit, not really knowing what to do.
I have just today maxed out my card, all I have done with it is buy food, since the only requirement they had for me to stay, was to get my own food and such.
On Tuesday I have an interview to see if I will be granted SNAP, which is just money to buy food with.
I owe $1,000 on my credit card by next month, and despite my efforts, I have not been able to get a job.
I'm a bit afraid as to what may happen if I can't make my minimum payments, and I truly can't afford to do anything at the moment, I can only wait to see if I can get a job.
I'm a permanent resident in the US at the moment, and I'm not sure if I will be granted any money, but that's the only thing that will really help me at the time.
I guess my biggest concern is just the card, I think I can manage figuring out food and maybe shelter if it comes down to it, but I don't want to get in trouble for owing money to my bank (Bank of America)
What will the bank do if I can't make the minimum payment?
I'm young, and not very well educated on what to do in this situation, and out of being stupid and nervous, agreed to sign up for a credit card (and used it) without having any knowledge on it.
I understand these were bad choices, but at the same time, it's what's kept me here, and okay up until now.
Any advise would be highly appreciated, if possible.
If my post is in the wrong place, or just doesn't belong here, I apologise.

If you can't make the minimum repayment all that really happens is you can't get any further credit. Not much else.
However, not being able to get further credit doesn't just affect that one credit card it can also affect your ability to rent or get a mortgage in the future.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
