Actually HMQ owns all the land in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and British Antarctica. She allows people a freehold over it but it would be relatively trivial to make the land hers again AIUI.0

Technically speaking it is owned by the Crown, not by HRH personally.Actually HMQ owns all the land in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and British Antarctica. She allows people a freehold over it but it would be relatively trivial to make the land hers again AIUI.
I don't know about the Aussies etc, but here in the UK we have ways of dealing with monarchs that get too uppity. We either cut off their heads (Charles I) or throw them out (James II).:)0 -

160sqm would be a good sized terrace plot.
For a detached with front and rear garden you need more like 400sqm
but still with 60 million acres of land in the UK that's enough for 600 million such detached homes or 1.8 billion terrace homes0 -
With house prices as they are and considering the discovery of a new Earth-like planet, soon it will be cheaper to get us THERE & build?
Think of the possibilies. :cool:0 -
What percentage of the land or Property that is owned by Her Majesties Government, Councils, The National Health Service, and the queen herself, is actually useable building land or convertable buildings that could be used for none govermental activities. and not green belt. And of that, what proportion, is actually where a developer might want to develop, and the locals would be happy with that.
I'm guess, the MoD already sold off the easy bits, like in Telford, a corner of the donnington base, is now homes.0 -

New homes are so small these days...
http://www.bellway.co.uk/search-for-a-home/development-detail/house-style-detail/PrinterFriendlyFloorPlans?webKey=manchester/heaton-manor/the-lansdown-3-detFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Presumably the Government could simply change the rules with suitable compensation being paid.
Which sort of destroys the point of selling it off, unless you start the dangerous precedent of the government co-opting somebodies property & compensating them by less than the market value0
