Help - Newbie!!

I am very new to comping and I have been staying clear of any competitions on Facebook, Twitter etc. As far as Twitter goes I have not the faintest idea of how to use it! I have a Facebook account but I have a real fear that if I Like and Share something (which most comps tell me to do) all my friends will be inundated with all this useless stuff. Is that what happens and is there a way to prevent this? As you can see I am taking time to catch up with the modern world so any help would be appreciated.

You will need to set up a new email address to the current one you use and use it just for competition entries.

The likes of Gmail and Yahoo are simple to set up. You will get a lot of spam etc so a new email is essential.

This is also the case for Facebook and twitter, if you are wanting to enter competitions on social media then new accounts where you aren't annoying your friends will be needed.

Edit - If you want to enter as many competitions as you can then you should download RoboForm, this allows you to store passwords for websites and fill forms in without having to enter your details again and again.

Don't expect to win everything you enter, you can go months without a win but 3 or 4 can come at once. It does test your patience at times and the lack of wins will make you think about why you are doing it but the excitement and buzz alone will keep you coming back for more.

The way I prevent is that I set privacy very high so no one can see what I "like".

I then never enter a "Share" comp. I only enter FB comps that require such as comment or like plus the APP comps.

If facebook spot that you are running two accounts you risk losing both of them as FB rules only allow one account.

Many do have two accounts but it is a risk.

    In disagreement with Charley Boy

You do not have to set up another e-mail account, just some compers do.

You should not have more than one FB account, but some compers do.

Just be careful on FB, try to get some comping friends on there. I often share by tagging a comper friend if the post does not specify "share this post" or share to a small group I have set up instead of public. This may occasionally count you out, but not often.

Take it slowly on FB until you get the hang of it, make sure you read the comp post as what they want you to do varies and loads of people like and share when it isn't needed. Good luck xxx

Thank you so much everyone. I kind of thought that Facebook would be tricky. I am not going to let comping rule my life but I do enjoy it and although winning is thrilling I am sure there will be many occasions when I wonder why I am doing this! I do hope that I will win enough to keep me interested. I am deliberately not working out percentages etc as it probably works out as slave labour never mind minimum wage !!! Thanks again everyone

Hi, I think you are correct re percentages.

I do not note entry totals etc & work on the basis of "Enter & Forget".

If an entry comes back as a prize that is great but once the entry is in that is it.

Hiya, if you do decide on having a twitter account for competitions, there is a thread on here (somewhere- sorry I did a quick search but can't find it atm) where people add their user names so we can all follow each other.
General consensus is that it looks better that we're part of a network of actual people, with the bonus of sometimes seeing what other competitions people are entering. I don't use FB for comps, mostly for the reasons you mentioned, but it has dragged me into being a twitter user... ;)

Thanks for this. I will have to devote some time to getting to grips with twitter before I let myself loose on the world because once something is out there there is no going back and I don't want to disgrace myself!!

The "test group" we have on the forum average 1 win for every 1300 entries - not sure what that works out as a percentage.

But if you do 100 competitions a day - then 1 win every 13 days (which may be a £5.99 book) so yes, a lot less than minimum wage
Yes, I know there is no "R" in the word dream in my username - it was setup in memory of my grandson :A
