HMRC reponding to letters

I sent a letter to HMRC on 17th June and yet to receive an acknowledgment. How long does it normally take HMRC to respond? At what point would people recommend sending a follow up letter?

2-3 months is average at the moment. Pointless to send a follow up just yet as that will just sit in the queue too!0

I had a call from them earlier today in response to a letter, dated 30 May. They are up to their ears in correspondence at the moment and are dealing with it in strict date order. I remember having to do the same when I worked for PO Telephones/British Telecom/BT.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

If it's something that doesn't absolutely require a letter then you will almost certainly get a quicker response by phoning them, their mail handling has been appallingly slow for many years.0
