No! Don't sit tight and wait until January - what if you don't get a pay rise? That's another 6 months of waiting with potentially no return. If you decide to leave after that, it might take another 6 months to find a job, and before you know it, you are 12 months down the line and in no better a financial situation.

Even if you don't want to leave your company right now, looking around and seeing what your 'market value' is will be useful information for reviews in January. Also, if you did get an offer from another company, you can use this to go back to your boss and say "well company X is going to pay me X, so I think I have a good case for a pay rise if you want to keep me - remember I have the second most accounts.." (to do this you need to be willing to leave BTW - if they call your bluff and you stay without a payrise then they will know they can walk all over you)
  • Definitely yes! U should try to use clear examples to demonstrate how you’ve gone beyond your basic job description and where you’ve taken initiative, improved business or helped support the team. Do remember, if u had done a good job, salary rise belongs to u.

Tell you boss that waiting till Jan is not acceptable they need to be more proactive in addressing these issues now.

Might need to word it diffentely and pick a time but make it clear that you are not happy with the wait and if it does end up at JAn it needs to be more than a token.

Well done for making that step.

I think you are right to sit it out until January, but make sure you re arm yourself with all the info and confidence to press the issue at that review.

If you then do not get what you feel you deserve it may then be worth you looking elsewhere.

    Good luck.

At the end of it, I asked if I could get a pay rise. I was told it will be unlikely at this stage as the parent company will be holding reviews in January and some other time. But they will put the request forward.

I think it's a cop out and a reason for them to deny anyone a pay rise.

P.S I am also an only child, must be a trait quiet people share.

Did you agree how you would hear back, timescales?

I would wait a couple of weeks, arrange a follow up meeting and ask for the out come of 'putting it forward'.

By saying they are doing this, isn't the end of the conversation. You then get feedback on that.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • I did not agree to any time scales. I just said ok after they said they will be looking at it in Jan.
Another development has occured with another colleague who is in the same situation as me. But they are kicking up a fuss. It's demotivating the whole office.

The reviews are usually held every 12 months, but now will be stretched to 18 months.
I will ask about the outcome of me asking for a raise.

I doubt very much that anyone will get paid a token for the hassle. It would have to be a significant one for me as I should have had the payrise from 2013-2014, that's when my job role actually increased.

The pay aside, the atmos is not very good. I feel like someone is going to pop.

This is an interesting and relevant thread to myself.

My job role has evolved substantially during the past few months and I do lots of things not list on my description, I have learned lots of new legislation from Governmental workshops.

My main frustration is that I help resolve loads of issues months ahead of time before they actually become issues and keep external customers happy and impressed with our knowledge and actions. These always goes unaware with my managers and directors as there's no disruption.

Then for minor mistakes that I am only ever so slightly involved with, get brought to their attention, and are normally only because of mistakes from other departments,
  • So I have had a response from my MD and he was apologetic that the increase was a long time coming. The main point he put across was the company that took us over has allocated a small quantity of money available to increase wages and he hoped it would have been more but my wage has increased only by £1000 a year.

I feel insulted compared to what I do. And now we are having to still do a lot more, and I can bet you any money in March for my review they will be wanting to add more things on to my plate.

The worst thing is I now live 33 miles away that's 24 miles more than I used to do (This is one way travel to work) every day. Waking up and leaving the house at 6am so I can make it to work for 9am. (Traffic on the M6 Junc 10 is awful)

I'm not seeing any light at the end of this tunnel. I'm out of pocket every day just based on fuel to and from work, even though my car does 49-51mpg.
