When you lot encounter an older renter you should think "There but for the grace of God go I". It is only a hair's breadth of chance that separates you from her.
Predictably rugged supports any silly sob story that the Guardian publishes however absurd.
How are you getting on with the parents these days- still not speaking?0 -

A perfect example of someone who shows no thanks at all for their lot.
He who lives without gratitude lives outside of grace.0 -

I have always been full of gratitude that I always had excellent relations with my parents and indeed my offspring
you should really reconsider your attitude to your older relatives and the rewards will quickly follow0 -

Credibility comes with the full facts. Not just a blog which is little more a political statement.0 -
I get up at 6 anyway, and as I said I do not bike (never learnt to), and from where I live (North Kingston) it would take several hours of biking a day – not something I would like to do and hold down a job. Fine, perhaps, if I lived close to work and it took me 30 minutes, but I don't. As I said, the transport situation is diabolical, especially when it comes to Tubes (and trains and buses really) in hot weather.
I come in from further out, often get a seat on the way in for the 30 min journey, more than half the trains have AC. Then it is a 10 min tube ride, seldom crowded and most days I could get a seat if I wanted. Only about 1 in 4 of the tubes have AC but I could wait for one of those if it were to hot. I always get a train seat on the way home. Perhaps you just live in the wrong place?I think....0 -

The key thing above all else though is that renting in on the continent seems to be cheaper all round in terms of value for money in most places.
Having a quick look now, a 2 bed apartment (with the addition of a cellar) in the centre of Voiron in France is up for €560 a month. That's £390.
You'd struggle in most of the UK to get a property of the same standard for that money. It would be impossible in the South of the UK. In my own areas you'd be paying 80% more than the person in France. I dread to think how much more you'd be paying in, say, Kent.
Value for money is very important.
houses are more expensive to rent in England because houses are more expensive to buy in England because houses are more expensive to build in England because getting a stamp to build a house is more difficult in England
Since the year 2000 France has built almost 4 million MORE homes than the UK0 -
house prices and rents in much of the uk are overpriced but they are by definition not unaffordable
London is crazy but go to the second city and prices are about 1/3rd of what they are in London0 -
