How can I remove Santander default?

So I've just checked my credit rating and it's very poor and the main problem is a Santander default from two years ago which hasn't been resolved. I need to look through all my letters to remember as I've forgotten stuff but from what I know I will mention now..

I joined Santander about 3 or 4 years ago. I had a phone contract, I was working, the club I worked at went into liquidation unexpectedly, well actually they never told me.
Before I found this out my boss didn't pay me on time at least twice which resulted in missing a contract payment. So Santander charge me £10 a day. I should mention I had a normal Santander current account and was about 21 when this happened. The first time when I called Santander they removed the charges (about £80) as a goodwill gesture which was good of them. Unfortunately a week or two later my boss couldn't pay me as I was told they were in liquidation. I was owed about £150 and pretty much out of work now. I already went to citizens advice but tbh not much can be done, I'm here to talk about Santander though. They were still charging £10 a day then £100 or something. Basically I now owe them about £575 and I know I made a mistake but I just don't get how I can owe them that much. This was 2 years ago and he balance is still the same.

So I would like it removed as I don't think I should pay that much but I understand it is partly my fault. Since then I managed to get a job which wasn't enough to pay them off and unfortunately I'm out of work again but actively looking.
I would just like any advice on what to do like shall I call them up or write a letter. If I remember correctly they told me they don't do any type of paying back in instalments which means paying altogether is pretty much impossible for me which is probably why I ignored them and went to a different back.

I'm going to look through all my letters for anymore info but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, first off, your credit file has to reflect actual events, and you did default, even though it was because of circumstances beyond your control.
You should make a written complaint to Santander, stressing how unfair you think they have been with you, and ask for a refund of charges.
It's very unlikely you will have grounds to get the default removed, they have the ability to do so, but very rarely happens unless you either agree a deal to pay this off in return for removal of the default, or, your complaint ends up at the FOS, and they decide it was unfair to default you, in which case they could order them to remove it.

    Hi,

You defaulted on the account so Im afraid the default stays put for 6 years. I believe you can add a notice to your file if you want to explain the situation but you did default so its only right other lenders are informed of your correct credit history.

I have had a default removed from my account but only after I proved that I had in fact paid the debt before the default was issued.

Good luck in your job hunt! :-)

Oh dear, what you would like and what you have to put up with are two different things.

A default is a true reflection of your credit record.

You had a bill, you didn't pay it, the default is completely your fault, no one elses.

You are stuck with it for 6 years I'm afraid.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
