Keeping chickens in Belfast
Comments

Where I bought actually had a covenant prohibiting poultry
No chickens for me.0 -
We just got our hens a month ago, well turned out to be four hens and one roo lol
We are rural and most the neighbours have hens and there are a few Roos about so no worries about the crowing
And when they do start to lay, the eggs will work out at least twice the price of supermarkets
But I know my hens are free ranging most the day, out in the sunshine when we get it and scratching about
Foxes are the biggest worry, woman up the lane had 20 hens wiped out in an afternoon. We open the coop at around 7am and shut them back up at around 10pm. The hardest work is keeping on top of the poo. We spend around 30 mins a days cleaning their pen and coop and about an hour at the weekend scrubbing out and disenfecting
Mainly they are perfect pets. More time you spend with them the tamer they become. Now mine follow me around the garden and are getting easier to catch0 -
Please think of your neighbours.
I have experienced this from the other side of the fence and it can be unpleasant. I have to say I thought the neighbours were selfish and oblivious. I had these thought as I lay awake for hours listening to their birds!!0
