In preparation for the sales, shop staff often scribble codes on a garment’s tag to secretly indicate it’ll be discounted.
See the Next price tag secrets blog for a previous example. Shop assistants (and shopping nerds), please help us decode what these numbers/letters/dots mean in different stores – we’d love examples.

When i used to work at Matalan we used to mark the back of the tag with a fluorescent pen which made it easier on the night before to reduce the items by 50-75%"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0

When I worked in Dixons, a price ending in .98 meant end of line, about to be discontinued, sometimes discounted. A price ending .97 meant discontinued, and nearly always with a decent discount. I am going back a few years though, might not apply now.0
