Tax relief claim query - Teacher

in Cutting tax
Hello All,
Looking for some advice - received an email from a company who can claim back tax paid on union fees over the last 5 years and to change the tax code to reflect future tax relief on these costs.
Now they decide to charge £48.50 for doing this but I am positive I can be doing this myself.
Can anyone advise if there is a specific form I need to complete or can I send in a letter requesting all of this?
Many thanks for any help

Just send a letter. Your e-mail was probably given by your union - shows how much they care about you.0

Send a letter in with your job role, the name of the professional body/ union you pay to, and the amount for the years (you can claim back for 11/12 onwards). If you want cash make sure you specify in the letter as they may put an adjustment in your tax code. There is a backlog at the moment of around 14 weeks for post, but you can call and the query can be dealt with over the phone. (long call times of up to 45 minutes the later in the day that you call. I would avoid calling this week or next as lots of advisors will be switched to the tax credits line.0

The unions are paid to recommend these companies; this is a disgrace. I know a doctor and a teacher who do it themselves, and I asked them to tell all their colleagues.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

It's very simple to ring up and do this yourself, anyone charging for this probably has a sideline taking candy from babies.0

Agreed - and claiming that they can go back five years is doubly so. As mad mam of2 points out, you can only go back to 2011/12. It is so easy to do this yourself that I despair of anyone paying for this 'service'.'I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my father. Not screaming and terrified like his passengers.' (Bob Monkhouse).

Note: win, draw or lose (not 'loose' - opposite of tight!)0
