Come on! The drivers are self employed, they can't guarantee the time because their numbers are limited. Every minute the taxi hasn't got a passenger is a minute the self employed driver isn't making money.


It's to cover the company if a driver gets another job before the pickup time they can still take the job and earn money. It's not discrimination, it's because here are only so many WAVs on the road.

I don't agree with your assessment. It's a taxi that has the ability to take a wheelchair. You do not have to be in a wheelchair to book a WAV. So, I don't see how taking a booking is any different.
Perhaps, there might be an issue, if the booking is last minute, but I am looking to make a booking, days and weeks in advance.

I've recently had occasion to need to move an elderly wheelchair bound relative from the Ards Peninsula to Belfast and then back again several weeks later. The same problems around booking a WAV for a particular time were experienced with the same Belfast based providers as above.


Thankfully DC Cabs in Bangor were able to accept our request, and confirm a time and driver. Their consideration to my relative was first rate and their service was excellent.

I have heard of a chap in the Lisburn area, but haven't been able to get a phone number yet.
Hopefully something will turn up.
