Barclays cash card- want a current account with od

I've been discharged for 2 years now and want to rebuild my credit rating. After ive done my credit clear up (in progress) what are the chances of having a very small over draft with barclays to help rebuild my credit rating? I'm thinking about £50 ish or less. I've got some savings also with Barclays and was wondering if they would be able to use that as a guarantee kind of thing? Does that make sense? I dont really want to change banks as they were great though my bankrupcy. I didnt have any accounts with them when I went bankrupt.
Any ideas on when to apply?
Thanks, J x

  • You're unlikely to get any overdraft facilities from any bank while the BR shows on your credit report (6 years from date of Bankruptcy). Besides which regularly using an overdraft is not likely to show favourably to any future potential lender!

If it's purely to build up a credit history, it's much better to get a 'bad credit' credit card such as Vanquis (probably the easiest to get) or Capital One - Just make sure you pay it off IN FULL every month as the interest rate is eye-wateringly high!

I had a full and final IVA which finished about 18 months ago, despite running my account well, no overdraft (not even £50). This is with lloyds.

Bad credit cards and mobile contracts no problem, overdraft or switch bank accounts (none basic) not so easy
