Getting another mortgage offer?

  • Hi,
Not sure how much of this will help...
I'm not a mortgage broker or anything financial, but am just remortgaging at the mo.

Curious: does your awol broker not have a base/postal address, or have you done everything by phone/email? Guessing there isn't a base, otherwise you'd have popped over.

Option 1: if you already have a DIP, pop into your nearest Nationwide and talk to them. You don't have to go with them, and you can stop them doing anything which will leave a full search mark on your history, we were warned well in advance when our actions would leave a marker.

Option 2: ask friends and good neighbours for recommendations. We went back to the broker in the estate agent that sold us the house - apprehensively at first, but would glowingly recommend at the moment. They appear to have offered us all mortgages available from all suppliers, cutting loads of our current payment.

Option 3: Pop into a couple of local estate agents, talk to their financial person about what and how they do their mortgages. I only say it that way as I no longer know the rules on 'independent brokers' within the estate agent. I knew they have to be paid somehow, but just wanted to see all fees and all info whilst I'm selecting my mortgage.

    good luck.

Get another broker and avoid ones working in Estate Agents as they commonly:

work from a limited range of lenders
give the easier/larger/in house cases their main focus
    are new and inexperienced
    I am a Mortgage Broker

Our broker is through an estate agent, he's not affiliated with them as such as it's a seperate company but he's very good. Charges £199 only once our mortgage has been approved.
Spent a long time with us the first time we met and has said he's quite happy to deal with other estate agents, not just the one that's downstairs because it's easier.
    Obviously knows his stuff.
We've had loads of estate agents tell us their broker can find all sorts of deals and I won't entertain it now. One place we put an offer in for wanted us to use their broker for an affordability check and then wasted our time completely by not bothering to finish up dealing with the seller. Someone else offered and we lost the house.
Plenty of brokers about so have a word with different ones?
London and country are free and have quite a wide range of lenders I believe.
