Faulty Item - Partial Refund - Opinion's Please

Hi All,
I am after some advice/opinion's please.
I bought a underwater camera 13 months ago from PC World for £79.99 using the Pay and Collect service using my now closed credit card (Amazon Mastercard).
Water has begun leaking into the camera so it is now faulty.
Okay, so they have said a lot of things to me as we have had longgggg conversations at this point so I will try and keep it brief, lol.
They have said that as it is over 12 months it is not covered under warranty so therefore wont help in anyway.
I have pushed them and mentioned Sales of Goods Act etc which they said they can give me vouchers only to the sum of £50.34p as a partial refund and not a full refund and again vouchers only.
They refused to refund me in cash, so I again pushed them and mentioned that vouchers are not an acceptable method of refund in Sales of Goods Act etc and they have now said they will wire transfer me the money but it will still be to the sum of £50.34p.
I have said I'm not happy with a partial refund for starters and also asked them how they calculate this figure as even if I was to accept a partial refund, from my maths it works out as £65.55p.
They have now said that the goods don't have to last 6 years, that is only the length of time to make a claim and that also items don't depreciate at a constant value so lose my of their value in the first year.
Now I can sort of see their point with the above statement, but I am also a bit wound up with how difficult they have made it to get any sort of help from them so am wondering if I should keep pushing for a win from them (they said no to any help first, then changed their mind when pointing out laws, then said no to cash refund, then changed their mind again when pointing out laws).
Opinions please? Is £50 acceptable in your opinion?
Many thanks for your time reading this.
Tom

Well, considering you can buy the newer updated version from Pixmania for £66 (S33) it depends.
Honestly, they're going above what the SoGA requires and atm doing it out of good will.
To force any more you would need to get a independent report stating a inherent fault with the unit, which Currys can again come back with £50 is reasonable considering the age and environment it's being used in, and if you still disagree you would need to take them to court for them to provide the final decision (If it ever gets that way).
Though, to save yourself all that hassle, I bet you wish you registered for the free 2nd year Nikon Warranty which all the boxes come with stickers on and the manual and warranty card states it must be filled in to redeem. And that would solve a lot of headaches. (Too late now though if you didn't do it at the time of purchase)0 -
Their offer seems reasonable. Take it or spend how long arguing over less than £30?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I'd say their offer implies a 3-4 year lifespan (accounting for a non-linear reduction). I'd say thats reasonable given the item & price - I mean its not the cheapest but still nowhere near an expensive/top range camera.
Also bear in mind your time. You may end up spending 4-5 hours debating just to get an extra £5. That said, no harm in asking them if they'd do you a deal on another camera if you take store credit - if you're wanting/willing to buy from them again that is.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
take it already.
they are going beyond here0 -

Thanks, yea I think I'll take them up on their offer.
I did noticed the free second year guarantee but deduced that I wouldn't need it as I read some information that basically stated that its useless as UK law covers you for more (I now realise that this probably would have helped me though). I also had a nightmare of a time registering my other Nikon for the free second year so because of those 2 reasons I gave it a miss.
Thank again.0 -

You really need to read up carefully, a warranty is in addition to other rights. So having it is better than not.
Additionally charging for the period of use you get is more than reasonable.
As you've implied earlier, the 6 year terms is up to 6 years, and you're not being required to provide proof its inherent which is why you should bite their hand off.0
