DRO can i appeal?

Hi
around 5 years ago i was stabbed through my arm by a random lunatic rendering it useless for a couple of years, its kind of ok now but at the time i couldn't work and had a 10k loan with nation wide,i was advised by the CAB to take out a DRO and wipe the debt off,now my arm is better but not perfect, however i am self employed and earn ok money, ive only ever had standard debit cards and never been in debt other than this DRO,i tried to open a Santander 123 account yesterday but i couldn't because the credit report came back as bad.
it annoys me because if anyone should have bad credit it should be the moron that stabbed me who got away with it by the way due to this countrys ridiculous justice system and inept police.

i was going to put 10k straight into santander there and then but i cant even get an account.

can i appeal this bad credit score ?
it worries me because i am going to need a mortgage pretty soon.

the lady at the bank said even after 6 years it will still be on record as a bad debt so effectively for life, she said i should try and appeal it based on what happened to me.

any help would be appreciated.

DRO and defaulted account will drop off your credit report after 6 years leaving no trace to anyone checking, so that lady from the bank has told you something untruthful if she said otherwise.

Once they are off your credit file you would obviously still have to answer yes if anyone asks have you ever been subject to a DRO, but otherwise no, it would be gone.

The obvious exception would be Nationwide and anyone else who had debts included in the DRO, as they may have records of those even when off your credit record, but obviously you would avoid those companies when applying.

  • thanks for the reply fermi,i just checked experia and my actual score is 994 out of 999 but with this DRO on record it might as well say 0 out of 999
    the report also says this:
A defaulted account is one where you have not kept to a credit agreement
    Your CAIS code is: 8
    Default date: 05/08/2010

so i guess next year i will be free to give banks my money rather than keeping it under the bed ;)
