    Hi

I also find The Minimalists very helpful - if a bit extreme. I started clearing the clutter by being honest with myself - I was never gonna be a size 14 again. I CBed those and CSed what was left. On the CB I also put jewelry I no longer wore and ornaments which had been gifts but that I hated. I did not make masses - £30 or so but I looked at it that £30 was 2 weeks food and entertainment + for 3 hrs 'work' @ the boot fair (most of it spent chatting to me mate who had a stall next door) it was more than the National Minimum wage.

Then I looked again at the clothes and Csed all clothes that took a lot of laundering - ie - handwashing/a pain to iron/dry cleaning. I kept 5 items that I really loved that fell into this category. Getting dressed is now v easy - everything goes with everything and fits and I can see it in the wardrobe!! Also i only use the washing machine once a week - cos it all goes in there!:rotfl:

Recently looked at my clothes again - there were things I had not worn this past season (i.e.) winter. So they will be going out in the next tranch of stuff. This spring I focused on the kitchen - I took EVERYTHING out of each cupboard and asked my self - did I actually use it? If not - it went!!!

I am trying to live by William Morris's saying 'Have in your house nothing that you do not find useful or beautiful.'
    Hope that helps!

I too am working towards a simpler lifestyle.. I'm getting there slowly but surely.

Chic.?? Well that might take a bit longer :rotfl:

I think that Ben is right though, minimalism means different things to different people. I like clean lines and unfussy interiors however I don't like a room to look stark and bleak, so I will add creature comforts such as rugs, cushions and throws. And yes hobbies are an area where you might need to keep quite a lot of stuff.

I like the William Morris quote too.

I am mid-decluttering! I have found books to be the hardest! I could honestly start my own library! Even thinking of throwing a book out makes me want to read it again!!

It does mean I have been more ruthless with other things though, think I am trying to justify keeping the books!

I also need a way to tell all family and friends to please no longer buy me useless crap - particularly make-up/wash bags, and pretty but all so pointless little boxes of all shapes and sizes!!

Although not a minimalist site specifically, it arrives at the same point via the environmental principles of producing no waste.

    I loved the book!
