Coolbox For Camping - Electric Ones Any Good?

I'm after a coolbox to take camping next week. Was almost seduced by an electric one you can plug into the car in Maplins, but was confused as to how practical it would be.

Do you have to leave them plugged in all the time? Or does stuff stay cool in them for a period after you unplug it?

Any other bargain coolbox recommendations welcome. Needs to be a high street buy though as will have to purchase at the weekend.

I have a huge one that plugs in the cigarette lighter socket of the car. I've had it for years, bought from Halfords, very expensive but worth every penny.

I keep it in the car all the time, in the space behind the rear seats (we have a Mitsubishi Outlander) and use it almost daily when I go shopping....it's ideal in this weather as I don't have to worry about butter, milk, cheese etc spoiling while I mooch around other shops.

It runs while the engine is running, but stays cold for quite some time afterwards, as long as it's kept closed. The insulation seems to keep the inside of the 'box' several degrees cooler than the interior of the car, even when the engine has been switched off for several hours.

    I definitely recommend them :)
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

We have one that we bought for camping. We keep inside the tent and plugged into the campsite electricity supply.

Even on a hot day in southern France it keeps milk fresh and white wine chilled....

There a difference between a powered cool box and a portable fridge. Cool box won't generally cool warm things down so whatever you put in it needs to be cold first, a portable fridge will cool warm items.

This difference is reflected in the cost.
